Have you ever felt unloved, overlooked, or forgotten? God still sees you and loves you. In this video from Abundance, a Lifeway Women event, author and speaker, Kelly Minter, uses the story of Leah to show how God sees one unloved woman and acts on her behalf.

We see here in two unmistakeable places. Where it says that, “Jacob love Rachel more than he loved Leah.” And then, and this is key, in verse 31: “When the Lord saw that Leah was not loved, He opened her womb.“
Here is Leah, set up, if you will, in life for idolatry. The reason I say that is she’s set up with a wound. Can you imagine being given to a man in marriage, who really didn’t want you? Who wanted someone else just a little bit more. Or, in this case, probably a lot more. Very clear that she was not the chosen one. Very clear that she was not the one who had been picked.
And yet it says, “When the Lord saw that Leah was not loved, He opened her womb.” And this is good news for us tonight. And it happens to be one of my favorite verses in all of the Bible because we are all the way at the top of Scripture. We’re so close to the beginning. All the back in Genesis.
I think of all the things that God had going on. Think of the tides coming in and out and the population that was spreading across the earth. Think about the planets spinning. All that God has going on and God saw one unloved woman.
It gives us a hint, right here in Genesis, as to the God that we serve. The God of the Bible. That with everything that He would look down and see, and that a writer would record Him seeing, that He would look down and see one unloved woman. Brings a lot of comfort to my heart.
I don’t know where you came in from tonight. I don’t know what brought you here or what your past is. But I would imagine that there would be many of us that could circle around a text like this together and we, we could recognize and we could realize that, yes, we have been unloved at times. Yes, we have been loved less. Yes, we have been the one who was not chosen. Or the one who was rejected. Or the one who was betrayed.
And all the way here, it says that God saw that. He saw it. He knew it.
