You’ve probably heard the buzzword by now: spiritualism. Maybe it came in a conversation: “I don’t confine myself particularly. I consider truth more broadly as I’m spiritual. You know, spiritually seeking.” Maybe it was something brought up in your small group, or something that came up as you were scrolling on your phone.
Is spiritualism something new? What’s missing when we turn to worshiping something rather than Someone? Turns out, this type of misplaced hope has been around for a while. And Pastor Noe Garcia has wisdom to share.

I am here in Sedona, Arizona.
You know, it’s kind of hard not to see the beauty I’m surrounded by. It reminds you of just how big and just how powerful our God really is. You can look and see the red rock, the creation, and the work of His hands, we are surrounded by. How can you not believe there is a Creator out there?
But you know, it’s true— you know that some would see the beauty of these rocks, and they would worship the thing created.
That’s what Paul says in Romans chapter 1—they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and they worshiped the things created versus the Creator. See, here’s the problem with that: these rocks, they don’t speak back. We can bow down, we can worship these rocks, we can put our hope in them, we can put our comfort in them, but they will never acknowledge us; they will never speak back. There is no true hope in these rocks.
This is the great thing for Christians. These rocks declare His glory. These rocks remind us as believers that we have placed our hope in Jesus. This isn’t something that’s going to fail us. This is a reminder that we have the greatest God. We have the greatest Creator, and He will listen when we worship, and He will never let us down.
For some, they anchor the hope on the rocks that won’t speak back. For us, when Christ is the anchor of our hope, we can guarantee that the Creator hears us as His children.
