Starting a ministry can be exciting and thrilling. It’s easy to get caught up in all the planning and preparing and neglect actually asking God if this is the direction He’s leading you to go. In this video, former Lifeway Senior Lead Women’s Ministry Specialist, Chris Adams, explains how important it is to shower your budding ministry in prayer and lead with a servant’s heart as you build up your new ministry.

There’s a lot of things that we can do right when we start a ministry and also some things that we can do wrong.
One of the things that I’ve seen happen in some of the ministries being set up within church or community is getting out there and getting it started and planning it and then asking God to bless it. As opposed to starting with: where is God already working?
It’s a very common phrase for those who have done the study, Experiencing God. But it’s a whole different way of looking at ministry. It’s really watching to see where God is working in the hearts and lives of women already within the church or within the community. And then saying, how is God inviting us to be a part of that?
Praying first. And sometimes that prayer will last for a long period of time before the first steps are taken. But once God speaks and makes it clear what the first steps are, then you begin to take those steps. And you continue to cover it with prayer all along the way.
Keeping in mind that it has to come from a servant’s heart. As we lead to touch women for Christ it’s not about a platform, it’s not about how big can my ministry be, but it’s about how do we reach women and spend the time effectively working in their lives as we see God just using us to help disciple them. And then setting them free to do that with someone else. Watch that we always keep a servant’s heart as we’re serving these women and not looking for a platform in which to share our thoughts and our plans. And although God will use us to teach and to train, it always must come from: how can we serve these women? So that we’re serving Christ in a way that honors Him.
