Challenges For Women in Leadership

by Selma Wilson | September 21, 2019

Being a woman in leadership comes with a variety of challenges, but as counselor and author, Selma Wilson, discusses in this video, the biggest challenge you may face is yourself.

One of the things we talk about is what are the challenges that women face in leadership? Whether it be in the church or in the workplace today.

I get asked that question a lot as a woman who’s had many different roles in leadership. And to be honest, I think one the biggest challenges that we have is ourselves. It is we discount ourselves. We hold back. We get afraid, insecure, and sometimes we even get angry.

But I think one of the ways to overcome that challenge is to just step in and step up to the opportunities that God has given you. Your role is essential in the church, in the home, and in the workplace. You have something to contribute.

The challenge won’t come, most of the time, from other people. Now, to be in life, you’re gonna have challenges. I mean, there’s gonna be people that like you and people that don’t like you. You gotta get over that. The number one person you please is God.

You need to take the opportunities that the Lord has given you and be you in those and step up and contribute. Speak out. Use your gifts. Speak the truth in love, Scripture says.

Love the very organization you serve. Love the Church. Love the leaders in the church. But your contribution to the health and well-being of the very place that God has put you will make all the difference in the world. Your home needs you, your church needs you, and the workplace needs you.

So take the challenge, be you, and make your voice heard and make your contribution matter.
