How Do You Leave a Lasting Legacy?

by Casey Merrifield | April 6, 2019

As a leader we want to leave others with a legacy. We don’t want our efforts and projects to have been in vain. In this video, Women’s Ministry Leader, Casey Merrifield, breaks down the stereotype of leadership and describes what characteristics successful leaders should embody.

The entire video is above, and the complete transcript is below.

If you really, really want to leave a lasting legacy you have change your perspective on what successful leadership really is.

So if you want to change the culture in any place – and I think specifically about churches, ministry, America – we need secure, confident, and humble leaders.

That’s not generally what we go after in leadership. We’re usually looking for more power, structure, influence, and those ways. But a secure, confident leader, especially among believers, knows that their security and their confidence come from the Lord.

So confidere is actually “to hold and trust”. So when you think about what even trust is we have understand that trust is not letting someone have a long leash to just go and do what they want to do. Because our hearts are wicked and utterly deceitful. So left to our own, we do not do well. But trust is really letting people peer into the weak parts of your life and helping you clean out the cobwebs to show you that growth and health really is when we deal with the parts that keep us back.

Leaving a lasting legacy is secure, confident, humble people who are using their power and their authority to serve other people in such a way that they’re lifting people up and they’re fighting for the highest good in the people they lead.
