This weekend is Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, a time in which many churches gather together to celebrate life, commemorate the many lives lost to abortion, and commit themselves to protecting the vulnerable. In this video, author & speaker, Daniel Darling, gives three simple ways for churches and individuals to support pro-life causes throughout the rest of the year.
The entire video is above, and the complete transcript is below.
Here are three simple ways that I believe followers of Jesus can support pro-life causes in their community.
1) CULTIVATE A PRO-LIFE VISION
First of all I think is cultivating a pro-life vision and attitude in your church in whatever way you can. What I mean by that is not just thinking about the pro-life issue on Sanctity of Life Sunday, which is very important, but whenever the topic of the vulnerable come up in Scripture that we’re making sure we apply it to actual injustices in our community, whether it’s the unborn that are targeted for death or human trafficking, or anything along that range from, as we like to say, womb to tomb. Cultivating that. Preaching it. Teaching it. Believing this as a core value that the people of God need to come alongside the most vulnerable and be for life.
2) SPEAK WELL OF THE VULNERABLE
I think secondly is to be pro-life in the way that we talk about the vulnerable. Even if we might say on an opinion survey that I am pro-life, I’m against abortion – as we should be. But if the way we talk about people we disagree with, the way we talk about vulnerable online or in conversations is as dehumanizing then we’re not really as pro-life as we think we are.
3) COME ALONGSIDE LOCAL MINISTRIES
I think third, and most importantly, I always encourage people to come alongside good ministries in your local community that are doing good pro-life work. That very well could be a pregnancy resource center. I really believe in pregnancy resource centers. I think they do incredible work. They really help young mothers in crisis make really good decisions. So a church can come alongside them with their financial resources, with volunteer time, with support like that. It could be very well that your community doesn’t have something like that and that could be something that you launch and start. You start a non-profit like a pregnancy resource center. There might be other ministries like that that are doing good work. Maybe they’re combatting human trafficking. Maybe they’re combatting poverty or something like that. Find the good ministries in your community that are doing well. Partner with them. Get other churches to partner with them.
I think those are really three ways that we can serve and be a pro-life voice in our communities.
