Living in Truth

by Mary Jo Sharp | October 25, 2018

In her Bible study, Living in Truth, Christian apologist, speaker, and writer, Mary Jo Sharp, discusses society’s relationship with truth and how culture tries to grasp it.

The entire video is above, and the complete transcript is below.

You know, when you look up several definitions of truth, one of them is that, “truth is telling it like it is”. That seems simple enough, doesn’t it? Yet it can be so difficult in our society just to have that conversation about the truth about God. Why is that?

There are many reasons why. In fact, there are many ideas about truth in our society. Some people think that science is the only way to know truth. Some people might say that truth is what is found in each person’s heart. Some people think that there is no truth to be found in religion whatsoever. And some people question whether or not truth exists at all.

At a recent conference in Puerto Rico, a group of prisoners were brought in to listen to my sessions. And during Q&A, one of the prisoners got up and he asked me this: “How do I know what’s true?”

And my students at the university, when we talk about truth and what it is. My students say they are not sure they can know truth at all.

This is the question of our culture. What is truth?
