LeBron James, Teamwork, and the Local Church

by Trip Lee | August 23, 2018

At the Lifeway Pipeline Leadership Conference in 2016, Christian rapper, singer, poet, and author, Trip Lee, took some time share about discipleship and how participation in the local church is more like basketball than swimming.

“Christianity is not an individual thing we do. It’s a team sport. We lean on this Word together.”

“You cannot just have a couple of good players who happen to be in the same place at the same time.”

“You gotta have people who practice together, who have a common goal, who understand what they’re trying to do, who all understand their unique part. And until all those parts work together, you’re not going to be able to reach the common goal.”

“What we see in Scripture is that Christianity is not an individual sport that a bunch of us happen to show up in a room together and do at the same time. It’s a team sport…not like swimming, but like basketball. Everyone has to play their role or we won’t be able to get to the common goal.”

“The common goal God has given us as a family in Christ is Christ-likeness, maturity, and growth.”
